Museums & fine art insurance

Fine art insurance covers paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, antiques, historic artefacts and other items of artistic, historic or scientific interest against loss or damage, at home, on display, in storage and in transit. It suits museums, heritage and nature centres, historic houses, libraries, cultural centres and arts organisations, as well as galleries, exhibition organisers, corporate collections and private collectors in Qatar, including works on loan. We request offers from several insurers licensed by Qatar Central Bank, explain how each policy values your items, arrange the policy and follow up any claim with the insurer.

In QatarQatar's heat and humidity can harm artworks, so insurers may require climate-controlled storage and specialist packing for transit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between agreed value and market value?

With agreed value, you and the insurer agree each item's value when the policy starts, usually from a recent valuation, and that amount is paid for a total loss. With market value, the value is set after the loss, which can lead to disputes.

Does my home insurance cover my private art collection?

Home policies usually limit valuable items and may not fully cover art. A fine art policy, or listing each work by name, gives cover suited to high-value pieces.

We are borrowing works for an exhibition. What cover do we need?

Lenders usually ask for cover from pickup to return, including transit and display. Send us the loan agreement so we request offers that match the lender's requirements.

How often should I revalue my collection?

Art values change over time, so many collectors revalue every few years or after big market changes. An out-of-date value can reduce the claim payment.
