What this notice covers
This notice explains how we handle your personal data when you visit our website, send us a request through it, or contact us about insurance by WhatsApp, phone or email. We handle it under the Personal Data Privacy Protection Law No. 13 of 2016 and Qatar Central Bank's rules on data handling and protection.
What we collect
- When you send us a request through the website (a quote, a renewal or a claim): your name, phone number, email and preferred contact method, and the details of what you want to insure or of your claim.
- Documents you choose to send us, such as your QID, Istimara, policy or photos of damage.
- When you contact us by WhatsApp, phone or email: what you tell us and send us, and a record of our contact with you.
- Technical data needed to run the website and protect it from misuse, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested.
- How you found us, in general terms, such as the referring website or the campaign name. We keep advertising click identifiers only if you accept analytics cookies.
Data we don't ask for online
This site does not ask for health data, data about children or religious beliefs, which are special-nature data under Article 16 of the law. If an insurer needs them to issue a policy (such as family health cover) it collects them through its own forms as the law allows. Please don't type such data into the assistant or the site's free-text fields.
Why we use your data
- To request insurance offers and arrange your policy, at your request and with your consent.
- To help with claims and follow them up with the insurer.
- To remind you about renewal, if you agreed.
- To send news and offers only with a separate consent you can withdraw at any time.
- To keep records and meet our legal and regulatory duties to Qatar Central Bank and other authorities.
- To run the website securely, and to understand how it is used if you accept analytics cookies.
Where your data is kept, and who processes it
At this stage the website runs on Vercel (United States), which delivers its pages through servers in several countries. The website does not take requests or documents yet: you send them to us by WhatsApp, phone or email instead. Vercel processes only the technical data needed to deliver the pages and protect the website, such as your IP address. Before the website takes requests, we will update this page, and their main storage and processing will stay in Qatar, as Qatar Central Bank rules require.
We also use these services:
- Resend (United States) sends our team an email alert when a new request arrives. The alert carries only the reference number, the type of request and the insurance product: not your name, phone number, QID or documents.
- Microsoft 365 is our company email service. Emails you send us, and the alerts above, arrive there.
- WhatsApp, a Meta service: if you choose to contact us on WhatsApp, your messages and files pass through it under its own terms and privacy policy, and may be processed outside Qatar.
- GitHub (United States) holds the website's code only. It holds no customer data.
- Analytics and ad measurement tools, only if we use them and you accept them (see Cookies).
How long we keep it
Qatar Central Bank rules require us to keep records of personal data, currently for at least 10 years. We therefore keep the records of your requests, policies, claims and our contact with you for as long as those rules and other laws require, including requests that did not lead to a policy. Once that period has ended and we no longer need a record, we delete it or anonymise it.
On your own device, the quote form saves your progress (the product and its details, not your contact details) so you can finish later. You can remove it with "Start over" or by clearing the site's data in your browser.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) on every page, limit access to the staff who need it to serve you, and keep uploaded documents in private storage that is not open to the public.
If a breach affects personal data, we act to contain it, report it to Qatar Central Bank and the competent authorities as the rules and laws require, and tell affected customers where the law requires it.
Your rights
Under the Personal Data Privacy Protection Law you may:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Withdraw your consent, or object to processing that the purpose you gave the data for does not need.
- Ask us to delete your data. Where Qatar Central Bank rules or another law require us to keep a record, we keep it only for the required period and tell you why.
- Stop marketing messages at any time.
How to use your rights
Email info@albayaninsurance.com or call +974 4451 2100. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, and we answer within the time the law sets.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the personal data protection department of the National Cyber Security Agency.
Marketing messages
We send marketing only with your separate consent. You can stop it at any time by replying to the message or contacting us.
The Al Bayan assistant
The assistant answers general questions about insurance and does not need your personal data, so please don't type personal, health or policy details into it. It is not used to make insurance decisions. If we connect it to an outside AI service, we will name that service on this page first.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy and will show the date of the latest change at the top of the page.
