Medical insurance

Medical insurance pays for treatment at hospitals and clinics in the insurer's network, from emergencies and hospital stays to outpatient visits, depending on the plan. We arrange plans for individuals, families, visitors to Qatar and domestic workers. We get offers from QCB-licensed insurers, explain networks, limits, co-payments and waiting periods, and follow your claims with the insurer.

In QatarUnder Law No. 22 of 2021, employers must provide health cover for expatriate employees, and visitors to Qatar have needed health insurance since 1 Feb 2023, with some exemptions set by the Ministry of Public Health.

Frequently asked questions

My employer gives me health insurance. Do I need my own plan?

Under Law No. 22 of 2021, employers must provide health cover for expatriate employees. A personal plan can cover family members who are not included, or add benefits your work plan lacks, such as a wider network or treatment abroad. We review your current cover and tell you what is missing.

My parents are visiting Qatar. What insurance do they need?

Visitors to Qatar must hold health insurance that covers emergency and accident treatment, with some exemptions set by the Ministry of Public Health depending on the visa type and length of stay. We arrange this cover before the visit from an insurer registered with the Ministry, and we can add wider benefits if you want more than the basic cover.

Can I insure my domestic worker?

Yes. Law No. 15 of 2017 requires employers to provide domestic workers with medical treatment free of charge, and a medical plan helps you meet those costs. We get offers and explain what each plan includes, such as clinic visits, medicines and emergencies.

Are chronic or pre-existing conditions covered?

It depends on the insurer and the plan. Some cover them after a waiting period or up to a set limit, and you must declare them on the insurer's application form. We explain each insurer's terms before you decide.
