Frequently asked questions
Is workers' compensation insurance compulsory in Qatar?
The insurance itself is not compulsory, but Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 makes the employer compensate work injuries and occupational diseases, insured or not. The policy takes on that liability for you, within its terms.
Can I insure my domestic workers?
Yes. Law No. 15 of 2017 sets out the rights of domestic workers, and there are dedicated policies for housemaids, drivers and nannies. We request offers and explain what each one includes.
What information do insurers need?
Usually the number of employees and annual wages for each job type, the nature and sites of the work, and your claims history. Higher-risk work, such as work at height or offshore, must be declared.
Do I have to report a work injury?
Yes. The Labour Law requires the employer to report a work injury or death to the police and the labour authorities straight away, so do this and tell us at the same time. We then notify the insurer and follow the claim.
